The Executive Leadership of the ruling Jubilee Party has distanced itself with the convention organized by some of its members which took place in Naivasha since Sunday evening until Monday.

Jubilee through its Secretary-General Raphael Tuju says the Naivasha meeting convened by members of its Tanga Tanga faction, a Deputy President William Ruto allied group, was not a PG meeting.

Tuju says that such a meeting cannot and will never qualify to be a PG meeting.

According to Tuju, a PG meeting is only valid when it is convened and chaired by party leader or such other person whom the party leader may delegate the role.

He added that any resolutions of any meeting not convened in accordance with party’s provisions are not official party’s resolutions.

“It would be valid when it is convened under article 9 part 7 of the Party constitution and is chaired by the Party leader, or such other person the Party leader may delegate such role of chairing,” Tuju said.

He added the meeting was not in line with the party’s constitution hence the consensus met in the Naivasha retreat doesn’t have a seconding from the party.

“Any resolutions of any meeting not convened in accordance with the provisions of the Party constitution are therefore not official Party resolutions. For the avoidance of doubt, the Naivasha retreat was not a PG meeting,” he added.

Through a press release to newsrooms and also posted on Official Party Online platforms, Tuju outlined the procedures for calling for a PG citing clauses from the Party Constitution.

In rejoinder through his Twitter handle, Nandi Senator, Samson Cheragei, “Tuju is pushing an ODM narrative & he is in bed with enemies & merchants who want to kill jubilee. they fear that jubilee has become a formidable political party with a national outlook.
I didn’t know being a CS without a portfolio is this idle”.

The presence of embattled Malindi Mp at the Naivasha retreat is a big factor in disqualifying the meeting as a Jubilee PG. “I thought Aisha Jumwa was ODM and this was a Jubilee MP’S meeting? Ama it was a tangatanga MP’s meeting or private party meeting as Tuju called it”. Ibrahim Johnny questioned. Conventionally, a PG is only meant for those members who were sponsored to Parliament by a particular Party. Even Coalition partners are not allowed to such seatings. This alone vindicates Tuju from the backlash.

“Raphael Tuju is the Secretary General of Jubilee party. He is a close ally of Uhuru Kenyatta. Instead of attacking him, attack his master.” Lee Makwiny an online Political analyst said.

Michael Wamunyinyi a Jubilee youth leader however did not take it easy with Tuju’s directions. In a rejoinder to his Party Secretary General, “Who is Raphael Tuju to undermine the resolutions of 173 elected jubilee(JP) leaders? He is an ODM sympathizer who masquerades as a JP leader. His days are numbered. His usefulness and better days in Jubilee are no more. I declare that he be forcefully evicted from JP immediately”.
