By Samedi wa Makambo.

Let us speak with one voice I. Ukambani, Inawezekana

The Building Bridges initiative is meant to build bridges. In this regard, I am not persuaded that the continuation of different Ukambani factions planning BBI events are helping the BBI agenda of unity.

I have consulted Maendeleo Chap Chap members, several National leaders as well as many Ukambani leaders and I am convinced that we need a unified approach to the BBI process. This will ensure that our voices are taken seriously.

In that regard, and cognizant of the feelings of majority of our people in Ukambani, I propose a meeting involving the three Excellency Ukambani Governors, H. E Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, all Senators and all Members of the National Assembly to agree on a common approach for the region. There also needs to be representation of the three County Assemblies reflecting the various political parties. The key here is inclusivity.

It is important that H.E Kalonzo Musyoka and at least all the three Excellency Governors are available in the spirit of speaking with one voice on this important BBI initiative that will affect the lives of our people for decades to come.

I believe it is this form of unity of purpose for BBI that President Uhuru Kenyatta and Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga have in mind for Kenya.

To set a good environment for working together for BBI, I propose that the conflicting proposed meetings planned for the 1st of February, 2020 in Kitui and on the 7th of February, 2020 in Makueni be rescheduled.
We will be sending the wrong message when we hold different regional meetings based on political followings to discuss the same issue. We need a regional meeting which brings all of us together to champion for BBI on behalf of our people, regardless of our future plans.

Let us do it well for BBI, for our people and for Kenya.

Yes, we have competing political ambitions but I urge all of us to put these aside and focus not on temporary political credit but on the greater good of our community.

Dr. Alfred N. Mutua, E.G.H.,
Governor of Machakos and
Maendeleo Chap Chap Party Leader.
