Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his ODM Party, has distanced itself from the early morning gun incident involving Embakasi East Mp Babu Owino, where a DJ at B Club in Nairobi was allegedly shot by the Mp.

According to a tweet by the Party, “The Party should not be in anyway associated with the incident.” Read part of the tweet.

The Party’s reaction came after a bashing from Kenyans wanting to know the stand of the party and its leader on the state of affairs. In the past the party had to work out hard to clean itself from the dirty brand of violence and intolerance to the rule of law.

One amongst the many concerned Kenyans is former Mukweini Mp Kabando wa Kabando. “On this grave Babu Owino matter, the country deserves an immediate statement from @TheODMparty. My friend @RailaOdinga, dewhip the MP NOW. Show the country you’re wholly intolerant to impunity, that you care. Disapprove critics that you protect allies criminal.” Kabondo gave his position through his twitter handle.

In his response on behalf of the former Prime Minister and the ODM Party, the Secretary General Mr. Edwin Sifuna said, ” Matters of alleged criminal conduct are beyond the realm of a political party. The law enforcement agencies are in charge. The ODM party is subordinate to the law of the land. Our concern at the moment is with the victim of this extremely unfortunate incident”. Kenyans are keen to see if the ODM party will live up to its stand.

In the mean time, Babu Owino is still held in custody at the Kilimani Police station as the DCI continues with its investigation into the matter. Already a CCTV footage has gone viral showing parts of the alleged incident.

And as Kenyans are still awaiting the unfolding of the next episode, we can just say for now wacha kila mtu abebe mzigo wake.
