For those who have ever interacted with Homabay Women, Gladys Wanga, will attest of the energy she holds within her. The tough and zealousness lady is full of service energy to her people in the County. Her energy if converted to electricity can power the most vast counties of Kenya; Kakamega, Kilifi and Marsabit for the next decade. So much has been transformed not only in Homabay but the entire republic through her efforts. A human rights defender, human suffering and exploitation is something that she can never stand to see before her, neither are they entertained in her ears.
Few days ago, a young boy aged 15 years stared hopelessly as his dreams to changing his life and that of his family was being swept away by poverty despite doing exemplary well in his KCPE. Austine Omondi from Malongo Village in Suba Constituency left 93 marks for the examiners having scored 407 out of the possible 500. This is his second shot in KCPE. The previous year 2018 he sat for the first time and scores 357 marks and was called to Homabay High school but had no funds to cater for his school fees and other needs. This is despite the area Mp having bursary funds in his CDF Kitty.
Omondi’s family had tried on several occasions to reach out to the local leadership including the Mp but no help came along. “It is sad that such a bright needy boy is left to rot in the village. This is next generation of transformation in this society left to waste. I am very disappointed with the office of the Mp, and the MCA for not taking this case with the much consideration it deserves”, lamented Zadock Okello an elder from Malongo.
It is through a neighbour that Omondi was able to contact “Min County” the women rep as she’s referred to to in Homabay and lady luck found her way to his rescue. Miss Wanga was very touched with Omondi’s bitter Academic journey and immediately took it upon herself to see a solution is found within the shortest time possible and ensure the boy settles in class within the stipulated admissions time frame. “Austine Omondi Arunga whom I met earlier today is a true mark of resilience, focus, determination and FAITH despite the hopelessness of your circumstance”. Said Gladys after meeting the young boy for the first time. “I am glad my office got this information, we picked Austine from home, did his shopping and dropped him at Kanga this evening and will give a full NGAAF scholarship for the next 4 years. Wishing him all the very best in his studies” she added.
Omondi in his part has promised to do his best not to let his sponsor and community down. “I thank God for sending Mama Wanga to my rescue, I had not thought that good people still exist in this world after what I had gone through. I was just bitter every morning seeing my colleagues going for shopping and reporting to school. But having been given this chance, I won’t let you guys down.” The now over joyed Omondi reacted.
His uncle who was present wished Mama county all the best in her endeavours and asked God to continuously bless her and let her cup over flow. “We thank God that the county MP Hon Gladys Wanga got wind of Austine’s case and stepped in. Omondi Wuod Arunga will now enjoy the full scholarship of the woman Rep right from high school all the way to University. Nyasaye ogwedhi ahinya min county” he told Gladys.
We here at Uji Moto wish Omondi all the best in his studies and remind the women rep to keep to her promise. To the area Mp two years is not a decade, you better start parking…
