Vocal and fiery Mp for Malindi Aisha Jumwa has blasted President Uhuru Kenyatta for not recognizing the Mijikenda community in his government. Her sentiments came moments after the President did a reshuffle to his Cabinet where two new Cabinet Secretaries joined cabinet, surprisingly both from Uhuru’s Mt. Kenya backyard.
The self declared Mijikenda spokesperson critisized the BBI Initialized by President Uhuru and opposition leader Raila Odinga terming it as useless at it never worked to bring on board the marginalized communities. Through a video she shared on social media platforms, the Mp went further ahead to order the Mijikenda people not attend the BBI Forum scheduled to be hosted in Tononoka grounds, Mombasa County in the coming weeks.
“We have equal rights in Kenya and should there be an opportunity in public offices, we Mijikenda must be considered too. We have educated sons and daughters, professionals in different fields but non is give an opportunity to serve the Nation” she said. “Nashangazwa na haya maswala ya inclusivity kwa BBI, hawa wa Mijikenda hawamo, kwani Wajikenda sio wakenya? Nyinyi oneeni BBI na hakuna atakao waskiza, matatumika kutengezea watu nyadhfa na vyeo tu”. She added.
In the current Government the highest ranking official from the Mijikenda community is Lands CAS, Gedion Mungaro and the Chief of Defence Major Samson Mwathethe, though many consider his position as out of merit and not of political appointment.
Aisha who christened herself Mekatilili after the famous freedom Heroin Mekatilili wa Menza, has been a strong opponent of the BBI. This is linked to her close association with the deputy president William Ruto. Some analysts are wondering why the bitterness and she left opposition Party ODM to join Government, and its the same government that she’s sleeping with that is denying the Mijikenda recognition in government.

Her action widens the rift at the Coast, as it shows that she doesn’t recognize the appointments of Najib Balala CS for Tourism as part of region and nominee for CAS ICT Nadia Ahmed who are of Arab descent. In the resent past Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi was summoned by the NCIC to what the commission termed as hate speech against the Arabs on historical land tenure at the Coast. The Mijikenda has never appreciated anything given to them by government and clustered together with Arabs. This is viewed manly through the bitter history of slavery.
Aisha ironically wondered why the Locusts who invaded Kenya the other day are given more prominence by government that the Mijikenda who are rightful citizens of the Republic.
Kilifi North Mp, Owen Bays also joined Aisha in criticizing the President by pointing out the lack of government interest in improving the lives of the Mijikenda by supporting economic activities such as Agriculture. He pointed out the lack of funding to improve Cashewnut and Coconut farming. His reaction came when the president declared that the government will give 300 million towards improvement of potato farming in Nyandarua County during his address to the Nation earlier today.
