Mount Kenya Alderman, Maina Kamanda on Friday told a BBI Forum in Kisii that Kikuyu’s are not market goods to be auctioned to the highest bidder.

In reference to the emerging opposition towards President Uhuru Kenyatta in the house of Mumbi, Maina said a lot of money has been splashed and a few leaders bought but that will have no effect to the political influence of the President in his home turf.

There has been a lot of activity in the mountain given that the President is currently in his last term in office and the battle of succession has started taking shape. The kieleweke side is pro status quo and maintains the mantle must be maintained within the central Kenya region or to wherever the President will direct the masses to. On the other hand, Tanga tanga seeks for the implementation of the popular miaka kumi covenant between the President and his Deputy, where the duo were to support each others Ten years terms.

Kamanda who is also a nominated MP is of the opinion that the Tanga tanga team is running a wild goose chase and that the people will finally stand by the president. Based on the talk on street and social media platforms, the Tanga tanga group should not be taken for granted as they have a rolled out a persistent campaign in the region and beyond mainly targeting women and youth and this is due to the fact that majority of the Tanga tanga MPs are Women and youthful. The team is led by Kandara Mp Alice Wahome and its membership include Ndindi Nyoro, Moses Kuria, Kimani Ichungwa Kate Waruguru, Kimani Ichungwa and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika amongst others

“Don’t be disturbed by what you hear from the Mountain, that’s just mere hot air. We know a lot of money has been dished to our people, but that will not make any changes. They tried in Kibra and failed and they are doomed to fail in central too. And I want to tell the person bringing money to Central, you don’t know Kikuyus, you will bring a lot of money to Kikuyus, they will eat the money and at the last minute you will reap nothing from them” Kamanda said. He added that they have observed that the president has been abused on a daily basis by few rented leaders but that he wants to assure the people of Kenya that the region is firmly behind the president and those leaders opposing him will not get their seats back come 2022, and that the next government is going to be formed by Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga and all those supporting the BBI.

Echoing his sentiments, Kirinyanga governor Anne Waiguru said that the entire region is behind the BBI. “We have come here to Kisii to join and give support to our colleagues in Nyanza and to assure you that the Mt. Kenya region is 100% BBI. To demonstrate to you this fact is the Punguza Mzigo Bill. We all heard in the media and social places that it will sail through in Central, where is it today? Not even a single county adopted it.” She told the gathering. Further to that, she reiterated that the BBI will serve the best interest of the Kikuyu than any other ethnic community.

According to Uji Moto analysis of the Mt. Kenya political engagements, the region has always voted as a block and has been behind its own sons and this has been successfully achieved through the grassroots call of “Mundu wa Nyumba” (One of our own House).

From the advent of Multiparty in 1992 no one from outside the region has managed to influence beyond 5% of the votes and those who voted against the regional lines have always lost on the ballot.

With 2022 approaching, we are watching if Tanga tanga will manage to change the long historic voting Pattern from the Mountain to the Valley, as to how they will manage, only them will know.
